Stains, splotches, debris, and other unwanted issues with the teeth can quickly cast a wrong impression. When seated before someone of importance – such as potential employer – these matters can take on a new level of importance.
Do you know what your teeth are saying about you?
Stains are often first associated with an unhealthy lifestyle. Yellow, brown, and black marks on the teeth are blemishes that rarely go unnoticed and can give the impression that you do not take care of yourself. Aside from the fact that they can be off-putting, many employers have been found less likely to hire someone who is thought to be a smoker or who shows signs of inadequate personal hygiene.
Lipstick or food left on or between the teeth is another no-no. One of the very last things that you should do before walking into an interview is to take a glance in the mirror, because little things like this can make for a very bad first impression. The lipstick says ‘I was running late and got ready in the car,’ and the food says, ‘I didn’t have time to freshen up.’
If your smile is crooked, unfortunately, you may be turned away. Though not always the fault of the person sporting the slightly askew smile, crooked teeth give the impression of a poor background. If you are trying to fit into the world of the rich and powerful – even the modestly wealthy and moderately powerful – chances are that upbringing would be seen as a mark against you. It’s not fair, but unfortunately, it seems that it is a reality.
