If you have answered ‘yes’ then it seems that you are among a growing number of social networking individuals who see the value in seeking the opinions of the online community.
A recent study, which was published in the Journal of Dental Research, found that Twitter is already serving as a hot spot for exchanging information, advice, and expert opinion about toothaches and other orally-related symptoms.
More than forty-eight hundred tweets were found when search the key terms related to dental pain and of those, one thousand were randomly selected for a study of content.
After the one thousand entries were filtered to get rid of potential spam and repeat users, there were still more than seven hundred-fifty tweets to consider.
More than eighty percent of those were statements made regarding generalized dental pain, but the remaining one hundred-thirty posts were of more interest as they further investigated potential treatment and solutions to their problems.
Twenty-two percent of the total number investigated asked questions or proposed possible solutions, while another fifteen percent went into detail about how the dental pain affected daily life.
Of those considering possible answers to their issues, fourteen percent actively sought advice of the Twitter Community.
While three percent may seem an insignificant total, this does point to a new trend of individuals reaching out for advice. It also provides further reason for members of the dental community to embrace these new forms of communication.
