As members of the local community, we always appreciate reading upbeat stories about what people and organizations are doing to improve Austin.
So, the story about the actions of Sustainable Neighborhoods is too good to pass up.
SN, as the organization is often called, is making efforts to improve air quality and improve the world around us by planting trees in several locations around this city. They believe that the new additions will make the sidewalks more inviting to pedestrians and cyclists, thereby improving the community as a whole.
There are several areas of the city being targeting and there are ways that you can help with this project if you are interested.
The top targeted areas include Allandale (near the Northcross mall), Brentwood bus stop at the intersection of Koenig and Grover, commercial area of Crestview on Burnet Road, Airport Boulevard in Highland, Burnet road in Wooten, and Burnet road in North Shoal Creek.
All of these areas are regularly used by walkers, bikers, or mass transit commuters. They also provide ideal situations for the trees, with a lack of power lines and other obstacles.
You can help the efforts by adopting a tree, planting a tree, or making a donation.
