Texas has recently seen a new advancement in high education and it has little to do with the classroom.
The University of Houston became the first university in Texas to offer dental care to students in April, 2011.
This will be added to an already extensive health care facility, which aims to defend student health while classes are in session.
Students of the college were excited about the advancements to the available medical care, with those enrolled in the business program making sure to point out that the smile is one of the very first things noticed by potential employers, colleagues, and clients.
Students will now have consistent and reliable access to preventative dentistry, such as cleanings, x-rays, and exams, as well as a range of common dental corrective procedures.
Better yet, this service is funded by the tuition paid by the students attending, which means the cost of service will be kept to a minimum and nearly all dental insurances will be accepted. Representatives of the program assured those questioning the expense that the fees will be at or below generally accepted price scales within the field.
This program answers a long-standing need for proper dental care among college students, who will often overlook the need for regular cleanings and check-ups due to the inconvenience of finding a local provider.
The hope is that the example set by University of Houston will now be followed by other colleges and universities within the state boundaries and beyond.
